About Me

Thomas A. Gonda, Jr., M.D. is a licensed psychotherapist specializing in adult, couples, teens and family counseling. Dr. Gonda has offices in San Diego, LaJolla, San Francisco, Oakland (Montclair district) San Rafael, Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada.

With over 30 years experience as a health care provider (as a physician and psychotherapist) and a masters degree from the JFK Graduate School of Professional Psychology, he is currently serving as a psychotherapist working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among his areas of expertise are mood disorders, crisis intervention, substance abuse, couples and working with teens. He writes prescriptions.

In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Dr. Gonda has presented at many conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of psychotherapy treatment.

Dr. Gonda is an interactive, solution & insight oriented therapist. His relational therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, he works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

Dr. Gonda has lived in: Marysville, CA; Detroit, MI; Taylor, MI, Cambridge, MA: New York City (Manhattan, upper east side), Bronx (Morris Park), Chicago (South Side), Emeryville, CA, and his home is in La Jolla, CA. Dr. Gonda's ethnic background is half Native American (Iroquois/Mohawk and Mississauga) and half Eastern European (Slovak). The interplay of education in Western medicine integrated with Native American ethnic culture influences provides an orientation of genuiness, flexibility, curiosity, openness and an acceptance of ambilivance/ambiguity and small degrees of change.
